Where the data comes from

Agency records are collected through the DataForSEO API, which resells structured results from Google. We run two kinds of query. The first is a business listings search for SEO agencies in each Bristol area, which returns names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings and review counts. The second is an organic search for sector terms such as "SEO for dentists Bristol", which surfaces agencies that market themselves to a particular trade but may not have a prominent local listing.

The two sets are merged and deduplicated by domain. Anything without a verifiable business address, or with a domain on our exclusion list, is dropped before the site is built. That currently leaves 157 published records, of which 64 have a Bristol address and 93 are UK wide specialists for niches where no Bristol agency competes.

How ratings work

Ratings and review counts are copied verbatim from public business listings. We do not adjust, weight or normalise them. 47 of the 157 listed agencies have a published rating; the rest show "no published rating yet" rather than a zero, because an absence of reviews is not the same as a bad one.

Be careful with small samples. A five star average from three reviews tells you far less than a 4.6 from ninety, and the ordering on this site does not pretend otherwise. Both numbers are always shown together for exactly that reason.

How agencies are matched to sectors and areas

Sector matching comes from two signals: the categories on an agency public listing, and the sector search terms its website appears for. Area matching is based on the agency registered business address and the surrounding areas, on the assumption that an agency in Clifton will happily work with a business in Redland.

Some sectors have no direct evidence at all. Rather than leaving them empty, those pages inherit agencies from the closest comparable sectors, and the page says so in plain terms. You will see a line in the introduction and a question in the FAQ making the inheritance explicit, so you are never shown a match that we cannot support.

How the ordering works

The standard list is sorted by rating, then by review count, then alphabetically for stability. Bristol agencies are always placed above UK wide specialists. Paid featured placements are pinned above the standard list and carry a visible "Featured" label; they do not change any agency rating, review count or relative position within the list below.

When we publish a page, and when we do not

A page is only built where there are enough agencies to compare. Sector and service pages need at least 5 matches. Area pages need at least 3, because local intent is narrower and the areas are fewer.

That is why the site covers 114 sectors, 16 areas and 9 services rather than everything we hold data for. Thresholds mean gaps, and gaps are the honest outcome. A page listing two agencies would rank perfectly well and waste your time entirely.

What this data cannot tell you

It cannot tell you whether an agency is good. Ratings measure client satisfaction at the point of review, which correlates with communication far more than with results. It cannot tell you who will actually do your work, whether the person who sells to you will still be involved in month three, or whether the case study you are shown is representative.

Use the directory to build a shortlist and the questions on each page to test it. The comparison is a starting point, not a verdict.

Corrections

If a listing is wrong, we would rather know. Agencies can request corrections or removal through the for agencies page, and changes are applied on the next build. Removals are honoured without argument.
